Fear of the COVID-19 pandemic caused senior housing occupancy to hit a record low in the last quarter of 2020, according to the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC), with occupancy falling 6.8 percentage points between the first and last quarters of 2020.
To meet the demand for preventive equipment and strategies to keep seniors safe, these same facilities have had to raise costs. Even though facilities have made great strides in increasing safety protocols and vaccination efforts are well underway, a year of adapting to a new normal has taken its toll.
